A Birth Story

The Waldie Family  An absolute, most incredible event is about to happen, and I get to be a very close and intimate part of it. I am beyond honoured to be invited to photograph the birth a baby. From pregnancy, to labour, to delivery and for the actual newborn session, I am closely following this tiny little human's entrance into our world. With permission and blessings, from all involved, I would like to introduce the Walde family and to tell you a little bit about this wonderful family.

Gillian is a full time mother to Austin, (age 4) and Kyra (age 2). Tyler has to do what many fathers these days have to do, he works up north, about an hour outside of Hudson Hope. With shifts involving 21 days on and 7 days off, this family considers every moment of 'family time' precious and limited.

With Tyler out of town, Gillian has the continued support of many family members, but most prominent is her mother, Thailan. Thailan is a natural in the delivery room and has helped deliver a number of her grandchildren. I have been invited into the delivery room to capture the first moments of this little one's life. Gillian has a history of being in hard labour for very short amounts of time and there is no guarantee that Tyler will make it back to Quesnel in time. That is REALLY where I come in!

Birth and Delivery photography is becoming quite popular in parts of the world. This type of photography is NOT the type of photography that first comes into people's mind. The images captured are not gross, unprofessional, or revealing. The focus of this type of photography is on the journey. For some women, this is their first child. THIS is the moment when THEY cease to be an individual person and suddenly become a actual, real-life mom! One person has now become two. I will be striving to quietly capture the entire story. My job is NOT to direct, demand, interfere or request. Birth and Delivery photography is candid photography at its best! I am there to silently, skillfully and professionally capture moments of support...of pain...of beauty...of tears...of determination...of birth...and of course, of LIFE!

Then comes those INCREDIBLE, and tear wrenching, first moments when mom and/or dad meet their child for the very first time. These are  THE most precious and important images I could ever take. The tenderness, the tears, the emotion, the joy, and the love a parent(s) express during these incredible first moments can NEVER be replicated and will FOREVER be cherished.

These above images are of Gillian's nephew, sweet baby Matthew, at just 3 hours new.

And so begins my documentation of the Waldie family's newest member as he/she is delivered into this world and into the loving arms of mom, gramma, and hopefully (fingers crossed) of dad!

Look for images from our pregnancy shoot to be posted soon :)

*** Although I will be sharing many images with the public, the Waldie family and/or I, the photographer, have the final decision on which images will be posted here.  ***
